I’ve finally completed this painting. It’s inspired by watching people walking along the sea front in St Leonards on Sea.

This is an image I painted after attending a conversation between Basil Beattie and friend the art critic Mel Gooding at the Jerwood Gallery, Hastings
Continuing in the theme of my last few paintings, I’m reducing the amount of information I put in may portrait and figure paintings. I’m using a thick impasto created with large brushes. They are painted on several canvases layered together. The outermost piece of canvas is cut out so the stretcher bars create the frame.
As part of the Coastal Currents festival, Ore Life Drawing was offering drop in portrait sessions. Here’s two paintings I made.
