Lunch at the Baker Mamonova Café
There’s yet another café in Norman Road, this time at the Baker Mamonova Gallery. I had my lunch there and made this painting.

I have continued to reduce the amount of information in my portraits. This probably has the least so far.
Fabulous morning light
So beautiful on the way to the studio, I just had to stop and paint it!
A new painting
Continuing in the theme of my last few paintings, I’m reducing the amount of information I put in may portrait and figure paintings. I’m using a thick impasto created with large brushes. They are painted on several canvases layered together. The outermost piece of canvas is cut out so the stretcher bars create the frame.
The walk into the studio this morning
The route to the studio along the seafront early this morning was really beautiful. I made some colour notes with the intention of making a full painting at home, but when I looked at it later I liked it the way it was.
Big brushes, small paintings
I’ve started to experiment using smaller canvases and bigger brushes. I want to find out how much information you need in a portrait.
